Abstract

Purpose: Critical reflection has been found to be effective in improving communication abilities and confidence. The purpose of this study was to investigate the experience of novice nurses participating in a work-based critical reflection program.
Methods: Focus group interviews were used to collect data. Data of 24 participants who completed a critical reflection program in a tertiary general hospital were collected.
Results: Four themes were derived from this study, as follows: ¡°Being able to think while working¡±, ¡°Experience - learning - transition to new experience¡±, ¡°Becoming a channel of communication¡±, ¡°Being able to solve problems¡±. Results showed that critical reflection training was effective in enhancing critical thinking and communication abilities. It was helpful in participants' adaptation to nursing field.
Conclusion: A critical reflection program needs to be considered an essential tool for novice nurses who need to adjust to the clinical environment.
